Western Australian Maritime Museum

The Western Australian Maritime Museum is the jewel in the crown of one of Australia’s most significant maritime precincts, stretching from the convict-built Maritime Museum Shipwreck Galleries beside Fishing Boat Harbour to the new Maritime Museum and submarine Ovens on Victoria Quay in Fremantle’s working port.

The opening of the Maritime Museum, Victoria Quay in December 2002 created a vibrant showcase for Western Australia’s maritime history. The innovative architecture houses exhibitions that celebrate Western Australia’s maritime heritage and connections with the Indian Ocean. Themes include the Swan River and Fremantle, naval defence, trade, fishing, sport and leisure activities, and the movements of people, goods and cultures through the region. The Shipwreck Galleries feature Australia's earliest shipwrecks and tales of travel, trade, mutiny and murder.

Open 9.30am-5pm daily (closed Christmas Day and Good Friday; Anzac Day and Boxing Day 1pm-5pm).
