Geelong Maritime Museum
The museum at Osborne House displays an exciting mix of sailing ships and submarines, naval heroes and navigation aids. There is a treasure trove of photographs, large-scale ship models (including SS Wandilla and MV Kanimbla), flags, uniforms, items from shipwrecks and medals.
There is absorbing information on the sea voyages of explorers, settlers and immigrants, wartime naval battles and Geelong’s early maritime history from 1838.
Osborne House (pictured) was Australia’s first Naval College in 1913-14 and a submarine base in 1920-22. At Swinburne St., North Geelong (see map). Open every day from 10am to 4.30pm. Phone 61 3 5277 3808.
